SEND
We are aware that many children, at some time during their school career, have individual needs for which they may require special help. If a need is identified our Inclusion Manager/SENDCO is informed and support is provided as soon as possible. Our aim is to ensure that all our learners are able to succeed to the best of their abilities. Parents are contacted at the earliest opportunity and kept informed of their child’s progress.
Similarly if parents have a concern we hope they will feel free to contact the school to discuss this with us. We value parental involvement and believe in the importance of working as a partnership to support every child.
"The Head, SENDCO and teachers involved with our two children are amazing. They are always open to discuss things and very supportive. Both of our children really enjoy attending Eastbrook."
Parent Questionnaire April 2015
"Pupils with special needs are achieving well, making similar progress to other pupils because their needs are identified and appropriate support is given."
Ofsted July 2015
All schools within West Sussex have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) and are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school.
All schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with SEND being met in mainstream settings wherever possible.
The broad areas of SEND need are:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
- Sensory and/or Physical
What is the local offer?
The Children and Families Bill was enacted in September 2014. From this date Local Authorities (LA) and schools are required to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for children and young people with special educational needs. The LA refer to this as the 'Local Offer'.
The intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It will also be an important resource for parents in understanding the range of services and provision in the local area. Schools utilise the LA Local Offer to meet the needs of SEND pupils as determined by school policy and the provision that the school is able to provide. Schools refer to this as 'The Special Education Needs Information Report'.
At Eastbrook Primary Academy we value all members of our school community. Our local offer has been produced to reflect this. We welcome your comments on our offer, so please do contact us. The best people to contact are:
Headteacher - Mrs Julia Sherlock,
SENDCo - Mrs Jenny Holter,
SEND Governor - Rev Ian Suttie
